Devinsupertramp, FunForLouis Promote Tourism For Canada’s Alberta Province

YouTube stars Devin “Supertramp” Graham and Louis Cole (also known by his channel name FunForLouis) are travelling north of the border for a tourism campaign. The two digital celebrities will visit various locations in Alberta, Canada, and post videos of their travels to promote tourism in the province.

Between April 3-10, 2015, Graham (who boasts over 2.9 million subscribers on his channel) and Cole (who has over 1.2 million) will head to the city of Calgary, as well as resorts located in Canmore, Banff, and Lake Louise. The duo will participate in and film some thrilling tourist opportunities in the area, like snowboarding, helicopter tours, and more.

The Canadian Tourism Commission and Travel Alberta are sponsoring the Alberta-based campaign. The two organizations wanted to better capture the interest of young travellers. The Commission and Travel believed Graham and Cole were perfect fits for the promotional campaign due to their massive YouTube followings and relevant lifestyle videos.

“We want [Graham and Cole] to showcase our destination of Alberta as a beautiful spot to visit and one that they could have fun in, too, because that’s the focus of what they do,” said Nancy Smith, Travel Alberta’s social media manager, to StreamDaily.

Graham and Cole are just two of about 30 YouTubers Travel Alberta and the Canadian Tourism Commission have brought on to the Alberta tourism campaign since September 2013. The two travel organizations have seen great success with other digital stars’ projects. For example, Smith said Ben Brown

and Steve Booker‘s Alberta-based clips managed to rake in 50,000 to 100,000 views per video.

Granted, it’s hard to figure out what “success” looks like in terms of translating video views into actual feet on the ground in Alberta. However, Smith told StreamDaily the combination of the YouTube stars’ digital followings and the power of social media sharing across all involved parties have generated lots of awareness for the Canadian province as a travel hotspot.

“We’re a long haul destination, especially for a market like the United Kingdom – it’s not [a place] where you’re going to say, ‘Hey, let’s go there for a weekend,’” Smith explained. “But I can tell you that if you read the comments on those videos, people are saying, ‘I’m coming. I’m going this summer.’ We don’t have exact numbers, but I’m very satisfied with the results.”

In addition to Graham and Cole, Travel Alberta and the Canadian Tourism Commission plan on bringing on anywhere from ten to 15 more YouTube stars over the rest of 2015 to help with the Alberta tourism campaign. Smith also noted the organizations hope to expand their marketing into Germany during the year, as well.
