YouTube Comedian Paul Gale Creates Amazon Prime Spoof For International Women’s Day

Paul Gale is celebrating International Women’s Day with an amusing yet poignant take on the highly-debated topic of women’s wages. The YouTube comedian with over 74,000 subscribers on his channel created a spoof commercial introducing “Amazon Prime for Women.”

Gale’s fake Amazon commercial features a spokesperson (played by Lauren Ireland) detailing the “benefits” of the company’s new female-centric service. The spokeswoman notes “Amazon Prime for Women” was developed after the company realized some of its customers (i.e. men) can afford more than others. The service offers women 78% of items (which are literally ripped or cut apart) at 78% of the regular price, to reflect what women are paid in America compared to men.

Gale told Tubefilter he thought of the “Amazon Prime for Women” concept on February 28. Within only a few days’ time, the comedian wrote the script, consulted with his female friends, and brought Ireland on board. Gale and Ireland filmed the fake commercial at YouTube Space NY on Wednesday, March 4.

“As a comedian, I wanted to make an accessible video about an issue I know is important to the women in my

life,” Gale said in an email. “I have so many talented female friends and collaborators, and it’s completely unfair for them to not receive an equal wage or opportunities just because of their gender. Also, as a white male, I feel it’s my responsibility to help support women and institutionally oppressed minorities.”

Before the “Amazon Prime for Women” spoof, Gale and Ireland previously worked together on other comedic pieces. The two starred in Gale’s “The Truth About Being Single” skit, as well as the “Why Starbucks Spells Your Name Wrong” clip, which went viral and has over 9 million video views to date.

Gale is also not the only YouTuber to create a video for International Women’s Day. Popular vloggers like Felicia Day, Michelle Phan, Hannah Hart, and Grace Helbig recorded letters to their past selves for YouTube’s #DearMe initiative. The campaign focuses on empowering teenage girls worldwide by providing advice, encouragement, and support through the use of the video letters and social media hashtags.

You can check out Gale’s “Amazon Prime for Women” spoof on his YouTube channel. He also provides a link in the video description if you’d like to donate to the National Organization for Women to help end wage disparity.
