Nine EDM Videos Generated 2.3 Billion Views On YouTube In 2014 (Infographic)

Google wanted to know just how passionate the kids these days can be about viewing a specific genre of music on YouTube. So, the tech giant compiled statistics about YouTube’s EDM viewers into an infographic that clearly shows the large presence and growth of this music style on the online video platform.

For the uninitiated, EDM stands for electronic dance music. A good example of the genre that you may already be familiar with is DJ Snake and Lil Jon’s verifiable hitTurn Down for What.” But if you’ve never heard of EDM and you’ve never heard that DJ Snake and Lil Jon jam or seen the accompanying video (which currently has over 166 million views), Google discovered you’re quickly becoming out of tune. The tech giant found subscriptions to EDM-focused YouTube channels in 2014 rose 60% on smartphones, 77% on televisions, and 175% on gaming devices. Plus, nine EDM songs that made it onto Billboard’s top 100 songs of 2014 garnered a collective 2.3 billion

views on YouTube.

Additionally, while millennials under the age of 25 view the most EDM content on YouTube, the EDM demographic with the most growth on YouTube during 2014 were people ages 25-34. And viewers even older are getting interested in the music genre, too. Google’s YouTube stats reveal the interest in EDM for 35- to 49-year-olds grew 80% from January to July 2014.
