‘What’s Trending’, FouseyTUBE Break Down Top YouTube Videos Of 2014

The end of the year is upon us, which means it’s time for media outlets to pick out the top videos of 2014. The latest channel undertaking that task is What’s Trending, which has released a new video detailing Tubular Labs‘ picks for the most buzzed-about videos of the past 12 months.

In order to present Tubular’s list, What’s Trending host Shira Lazar brought YouTube prankster Yousef Erakat onto the program. Erakat, whose FouseyTUBE channel has more than 4.5 million subscribers, helped Lazar break down each entry on the list, though as a prankster, he seemed particularly interested in analyzing the “Mutant Giant Spider Dog” video YouTube chose as the top entry of 2014. “I guarantee you every prankster watched that,” said Erakat, “and was like, ‘why didn’t I think of that?’ Because it was genius.”

Beyond the Polish prank, Lazar and Erakat discussed several other clips, channels, and trends chosen by Tubular Labs. The analytics company selected its top videos based on view counts, subscriber totals, and shares across Twitter and Facebook. This led to a What’s Trending episode filled with Katy Perry, Pitbull, Ellen Degeneres, and other celebrities who racked up hundreds of millions of views on YouTube in 2014.

Many of the trends featured in What’s Trending‘s video also appeared in the annual YouTube Rewind, which arrived on December 9th. As with the Rewind, What’s Trending and Tubular Labs have made their top videos a yearly tradition; a few of 2013’s winners, including PewDiePie and Bart Baker, also showed up on this year’s list.
