Grace Helbig Sits Down With ‘Today’ Hosts To Talk About YouTube

When Michelle Phan released her own book, her promotion tour took her to Today. Grace Helbig is making moves in the literary world, too, and she has followed Phan’s lead with a Today appearance of her own. The popular YouTuber sat down with Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb to discuss her book Grace’s Guide and film an impromptu video.

Gifford and Kotb were quick to ask Helbig for the secret that led her toward YouTube stardom, though as the top vlogger told them (and as YouTube creators are probably tired of explaining by now), there isn’t really a quick and easy way to go viral. “It didn’t happen overnight,” she said. “It’s a slow process. It’s very rare to have what they call ‘viral sensation’ happen and get overnight success. It takes dedication and it takes brand building.”

Later in her appearance, Helbig picked up an iPad and started filming the Today hosts as they performed some sort of dance. While Helbig quipped that they would “change lives,” Gifford and Kotb clearly have plenty more to learn before they’re ready to start posting vlogs of their own.

This is the second time in a week that Today has dived into the world of YouTube. Previously, Maria Shriver sat down with YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki for a talk about work and family. The popular daytime TV program, which airs each morning on NBC, is taking an interest in online video–and that’s good news for creators and executives who want to get the word out.
