YouTube Lets Channels With 10K+ Subscribers Credit Their Collaborators

Online video creators will no longer have to list all their collaborators in YouTube’s video description field. The Google-owned video platform has rolled out the Creator Credits feature to channels with over 10,000 subscribers.

Originally discussed at VidCon in June 2014, Creator Credits allow users to tag other people under the “Info and Settings” section of the applicable video. They can click the “Add Role” button and choose from a variety of titles, including director, editor, actor, collaborator, producer, writer, music, and many more. Finally, they can add  a link to the channel of the person they’re crediting.

Once the changes are saved, the credits will appear below the video (users will need to click “Show More” to see them). According to YouTube’s blog, credits will also have a one-click subscribe option for both your channel and the credited contributor.

Also, creators who haven’t yet hit the 10k mark don’t need to fret. YouTube’s blog stated the company is working hard to bring everyone the same feature soon.

And this is just my speculation, but the tagging you can do with Creator Credits looks an awful lot like the tagging feature of Google+. It wouldn’t surprise me if YouTube is piggybacking off of the already-created function from Google’s other social media platform, even though the online video site is still avoiding re-integrating Plus into comments after last year’s botched attempt.

YouTube also recently updated its backend to allow creators to upload videos in 60fps, another feature touted at VidCon. With all these promised features becoming reality, the online video site is setting itself up as a more robust video platform capable of better creator production and promotion as well as greater overall revenue (just as CEO Susan Wojcicki would like).
