Ellen DeGeneres Debuts Her Own Online Video Destination ‘Ellentube’

Ellen DeGeneres has a knack for social media, from posting record-setting selfies to picking out some of the funniest videos around. Now, the comedienne and talk show host is putting her digital expertise to use to launch her new online video destination and iOS app ellentube.

Co-created by DeGeneres and The Ellen DeGeneres Show executive producers, ellentube will feature exclusive snippets from Ellen and will allow DeGeneres’ fans to upload their own family-friendly videos, the kind DeGeneres likes to so often feature on her show. The fan content will be reviewed and curated by DeGeneres and her team before being posted online, with the best videos earning the chance to appear on television on Ellen.

“Ellen DeGeneres’ amazing ability to inspire, entertain and engage people from around the world has made her the queen of social media with more than 100 million monthly views on YouTube,” said Mike Darnell, President of Unscripted and Alternative Television at Warner Bros., in the release. “With the creation of ellentube, she is putting all of that incredible video content in one Ellen-friendly place, giving her viewers and fans a place to post their content and be part of her community.”

But a prolific library of family-friendly videos and an opportunity to be a part of DeGeneres’ online video community is only a portion of the rationale behind ellentube. DeGeneres also wants to create an online video destination that’s safe, without any haters.

“What makes our site different than any other place is that if you accidentally type in a wrong word, you’re not going to stumble upon something that’s bad or mean or something like that,” explained DeGeneres in the release. “You know how that can happen. So everything on the site is fun, and there is nothing mean-spirited. And if you have a video that you want me to see, I’d love to see it. So you can send it to me by uploading it on ellentube, and that way I see it right away. It goes straight to me.”

And DeGeneres wants her fans to know there will be cats. “This is what the Internet is all about — cat videos. The working title for this website was ‘Ellen’s Cat Video Emporium,’ but we decided to make it a little more broad.”

There will likely be a lot of visitors, too. DeGeneres’ YouTube channel currently boasts more than 10 million subscribers and nearly three billion views. That online-video-viewing audience, coupled with the promotional power of her daytime, nationally syndicated talk show, should drive droves to her new destination in no time.

You can visit ellentube.com or download the app to see what DeGeneres and her team have already picked out for your viewing pleasure.
