Amazon Studios is pumping out more pilots to see what sticks with its viewers. Its most recent acquisition is the half-hour sci-fi comedy NORAD.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Studios purchased the series from Jason Micallef, who wrote the comedy Butter, starring Jennifer Garner. There’s no information about what the series will be about, but the title seems to be referencing a North American air defense organization. Butter’s director Jim Field Smith already appears to be tapped as an executive producer along with Trevor Engelson and Josh McGuire from Underground Films and Management.
NORAD is one of the many projects Amazon’s currently working on, including Promised Land, Point of Honor, Mad Dogs, and Down Dog (the Studios recently cast Lyndsy Fonseca in one of the lead roles for the yoga studio-based comedy).
So far, the first three rounds of audience feedback have resulted in six ordered series, most of them dramas and comedies. We’ll see if NORAD‘s odd combination of the science fiction and comedy genres will hook Amazon’s viewers.
