Reddit’s AMAs Get Their Own Mobile App

It has become very common for anyone with even the lamest claim to fame to take to Reddit, where they can invite the site’s users to “Ask Me Anything” (AMA). The crowdsourced question-and-answer forum is one of Reddit’s most popular features, and now, according to Variety, a new mobile app will make AMAs a lot snazzier.

The AMA app is available on iOS, with an Android version coming later in the week. Unlike the browser version of the AMA forum, which uses Reddit’s bare-bones design, the app offers an elegant design that allows users to keep up with discussion threads in real time.

The app targets the growing number of

users who browse Reddit on their phones while also appealing to new users. “We want to make it easier for new users to join Reddit and experience all the awesome content,” said Ellen Pao, SVP of mobile at Reddit. “That’s part of the overall goal of becoming a more mature company.”

AMAs are particularly popular among the YouTube community; most creators with significant fan bases have hosted their own Q&A threads. Mobile is a growing force in online video, too, and this new app gives the connected generation even less of a reason to look up from their phones.
