YouTube Appeals To Small Businesses With Directr Purchase

Twitch isn’t the only online video service YouTube plans to pick up. The world’s largest video sharing site has purchased Directr, a startup that helps small businesses create web videos.

Directr’s main service is a mobile app that helps its users create videos with the help of an easy-to-use interface. The company’s YouTube channel features some videos created with the app as well as some tips for aspiring users. The latest offering, for instance, discusses the importance of a good microphone.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but

Directr previously raised $1.7 million in funding. No matter the price tag, Directr’s team is excited. “For now, everything you love about Directr is staying the same and we’ll continue to focus on helping businesses create great video quickly and easily,” explains a blog post. “One immediate bonus: Directr will soon be all free, all the time. Thanks, YouTube!”

Directr will become a part of YouTube’s ad sales division. Google’s video site is looking to attract more advertisers, and with that goal in mind, Directr is an intriguing addition.
