A few clicks on the Internet Movie Database (IMDB) are enough to learn everything there is to know about any particular actor’s career. Until recently, the online video community lacked an analogous service. While most prominent online content creators have their own IMDB pages, a new company is hoping to be much more comprehensive. That company is called NeonGrid, and it officially launch during this year’s VidCon.
NeonGrid gives each of its users his or her own “grid” that includes his or her credits. Clicking on one of the boxes in the grid links to a separate page where the appropriate video can be viewed. NeonGrid is a great creative tool for YouTube and its interwoven creative community, but the site allows users to tag themselves and their collaborators across a number of alternate platforms, including Vimeo and iTunes.
NeonGrid isn’t just similar to IMDB with regard to the service it offers. Its co-founder, John W. Gibbons, previous worked at IMDB. “Today, there are more than 25 million people in the video and music industries who do not have a platform that allows them to credit their own work or find others with whom they would like to collaborate,” said Gibbons in a press release. “NeonGrid makes it possible for anyone to have a real-time crediting and attribution platform, allowing any entertainment specialist to better build a multi-media resume truly representing all work and all collaborations.”
NeonGrid is also forming deep partnerships with the online video industry in order to ensure a well-populated database. It is working with networks like Machinima and Big Frame to give noteworthy online video creators their own grids. To set up your own page, visit the NeonGrid website.
