Guest Narrator Neil deGrasse Tyson Counts ‘Cinema Sins’ In ‘Gravity’

The team at Cinema Sins has delivered one of their most-requested videos, and they have enlisted some celebrity help to pull it off. The channel that points out dozens of flaws in blockbuster films has teamed up with astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson to nitpick Gravity.

deGrasse Tyson, who has seen a surge in popularity since he became the host of the FOX reboot of Cosmos, was a high-profile critic of Gravity upon the movie’s release last October. At that time, he sent several tweets condemning the inaccurate parts of the film’s portrayal of space. In the Cinema Sins episode, he reads off his tweets while the channel’s team chimes in with some complaints of their own. The result has proved to be quite popular, drawing more than 900,000 views in just one day.

In total, the episode points out 69 “sins” in Gravity

, which may seem like a large number, but is pedestrian as far as Cinema Sins is concerned. deGrasse Tyson even completes the episode with an important disclaimer, as he notes that “if you must know, I enjoyed Gravity very much.”

deGrasse Tyson is no stranger to YouTube. His cosmological podcast, StarTalk Radio, is available in video form on its own YouTube channel after a previous stint on the Nerdist channel. deGrasse Tyson also showed up during Geek Week, where he read a science-themed list from AllTime10s. If he wants to make another guest appearance, I’m hoping he brings his smooth, sonorous voice to Honest Trailers. Too bad they’ve already made fun of Gravity themselves.
