YouTube Millionaires: For Lohanthony, “My Room Is My Sanctuary”

Welcome to YouTube Millionaires, where we profile channels that have recently crossed the one million subscriber mark. There are channels crossing this threshold every week, and each has a story to tell about YouTube success. Read previous installments of YouTube Millionaires here.

Anthony Quintal has a fabulous online personality, and he is using it to gain a big following. The 15-year-old has a lot in common with the average teen: He has a keen ear for gossip, spends lots of time on social media, and frequently complains about school. At the same time, he has built up a huge online following that includes more than one million subscribers on his YouTube channel, where he goes by the name Lohanthony and is partnered with Fullscreen. Here’s what Anthony had to say about his life as one of the youngest YouTube Millionaires:

TF: How does it feel to have one million subscribers? What do you have to say to your fans?

LH: Hitting a million subscribers felt extremely weird for me, to be honest. It’s such a crazy number and to think all those people cared enough to hit a silly button to stay tuned with me is wild. I’d like to give all my subscribers a special warm hug!

TF: You have more than a million fans on Twitter, Vine, Instagram, Tumblr, and YouTube. Which social media site is your favorite and why?

LH: I’d have to say YouTube is my favorite, because of how creative you can really be. There is no limit to how long your video can be and from that your possibilities are endless.

TF: On a similar note, how do you decide when to post a video to YouTube vs. Instagram or Vine?

LH: If it’s something simple enough that can be fit into 6 seconds, my immediate thought is to Vine it. If it’s something a little extra, then my next choice is Instagram. Then, if there’s a major topic I feel needs to be talked about, I make a 6-7 minute video on my YouTube channel.

TF: How close would you say your YouTube persona is to the real Anthony?

LH: Who I am in my videos is 100% me. Of course, it is just extremely magnified seeing that I feel so comfortable in front of a camera when I am alone in my room.

TF: On average, how much time do you take to prepare before you turn on the camera and start recording?

LH: Usually, I take about 10 minutes just to amp myself up by listening to some music and just having a mini dance party.

TF: Who is your biggest influence on YouTube? What about off of it?

LH: My biggest influence on YouTube would have to Shane Dawson. I have been watching him before I even thought about posting videos and his confidence gave me a kick start. Other than YouTube, I’d have to say Beyonce. She’s everything I aspire to be.

TF: Is it hard to keep up with school and your social life while also making regular videos and traveling to your events?

LH: It is extremely challenging to show up to school when I have a plane to catch in 4 hours and a video to promote as well, but I’m proud of myself for finding a way to manage.

TF: How would you describe the experience of hosting your own MTV show?

LH: MTV treated me like royalty by even letting me near the set of this show and I am so blessed to say I hosted something like the Teen Wolf After After Show! The cast of Teen Wolf made me feel like we were best friends my entire life and the people at MTV did the same.

TF: What’s next for your channel? Any exciting plans?

LH: In the future, I’d love to move out of my room-type videos, but that always scares me because I never know how it’ll play out. My room is my sanctuary.
