In February, Vice and FremantleMedia teased an upcoming channel that would take aim at an audience of Millennial foodies. That channel, titled Munchies, is now live in beta, and it synthesizes a few existing Vice series with a complement of new shows.
Munchies takes its name from its flagship program, in which well-known chefs take viewers out for dinner at a few of their personal favorite restaurants. Guests on Munchies have included Anthony Bourdain, David Chang, and Eddie Huang, and the series as a whole has received more than five million views. Here is the first new episode since the launch of the new channel, featuring Miami chef Michael Schwartz:
Huang’s Fresh Off The Boat will also take its place on Munchies, as will the London-set Girl Eats Food. Those series are joined by a few new ones. Being Frank follows a pair of Queens chefs named Frank as they bring their old-school sensibilities into the modern food world.
The second new debut is F*ck, That’s Delicious, which features chef-turned-rapper Action Bronson as he takes viewers on a food tour. The first season, which will take viewers to at least four different continents, seems to be aiming for a bit of that Fresh Off The Boat magic.
“Munchies’ programming brings the bold and compelling aesthetic of Vice to the hugely important area of food and its place in our daily lives,” said Keith Hindle, CEO of Digital and Branded Entertainment at FremantleMedia. “We’re really proud of it and look forward to developing more great content for both online and for broadcasters around the world.”
Munchies joins Vice’s other themed verticals, a group that includes the recently launched Vice News channel. Vice’s singular style is very polarizing, so if you don’t know where you stand, sample a few Munchies videos to see how they taste.
