‘Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist’ Takes Rightful Place On Machinima

Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist is coming to Machinima. The live-action adaptation of the popular fighting game will be released through the main channel of YouTube’s top gaming network.

Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist has a lot of web video history behind it. It began as Street Fighter: Legacy, a 2010 fan film that has received nearly five million views to date. In September 2012, Capcom gave Legacy creator Joey Ansah its blessing, and he began developing Assassin’s Fist as a full-fledged web series, with some help from the video game publisher.

Thus began a long campaign to pick up enough funding without sacrificing creative integrity. In April 2013, during the height of the Kickstarter craze

, Ansah launched a crowdfunding campaign searching for close to $1 million. After failing to gain much traction, he shelved the campaign, and he finds his series attached to Machinima year later.

Machinima was the always the best fit for Assassin’s Fist. The network has a history of turning fan films into successful web series, and it will attempt to shape Assassin’s Fist in the mold of one of its most popular releases, Mortal Kombat: Legacy.

“This series was meant for Machinima,” said Machinima CEO Allen DeBevoise. “We have successfully launched popular game-inspired web series in the past, and Street Fighter is about as iconic as they come. We couldn’t be more excited about working with the incredible production team behind the series and the folks over at Capcom to launch not only a compelling and action-packed series in its own right, but also one that stays true to the Street Fighter lore.”

Machinima has not announced a release date, though all episodes will be released simultaneously. Until then, Street Fighter fans can only dust off their SNES consoles and take a trip down memory lane.
