Countdown: Top Seven Academy Awards Videos On YouTube

The Academy Awards will go down on Sunday night, and there are plenty of Oscar-themed videos on YouTube preparing us for Hollywood’s most self-congratulatory evening. We already discussed the “movie set” at YouTube Space LA and the Oscar musical that came out of it, but here are seven other award season videos for your consideration.

7. Room on the Broom by roomonthebroomfilm

YouTube often serves as a home for Academy Award-nominated short films. This time, clips from animated short film nominee Room on the Broom have been made available. It’s not as good as 2013 nominee Fresh Guacamole, but it’s a cute distraction.

6. Angry Nerd: How To Improve The Academy Awards by WIRED

“Angry Nerd” Chris Baker has become one of the breakout stars of the WIRED YouTube channel. His last video decries the indulgence of the Academy Awards and is the perfect choice for Oscar cynics.

5. Best Picture Oscar Race Predictors in 3 Minutes by What’s Trending

For those of you in Oscar pools, What’s Trending has provided some tips to help choose the film will win Best Picture. This video would be higher on the list if it could tell us which film will win the Best Documentary Short Subject category.

4. Academy Awards PSA With Celebrity Impressions by Piotr Michael

Piotr Michael used some celebrity impressions to give this year’s nominees some helpful tips on accepting an Academy Award. All of the impressions are spot-on, but the Jeff Bridges impression is the most spot-on.

3. Best Picture Nominees (Cute Pug Version) by The Pet Collective

This video has an unnecessary adjective in its title. We all know there’s no such thing as a not-cute pug.

2. Backstage at the Oscars by UPROXX Video

Now that 5secondfilms has ceased production, the UPROXX Video channel is the main YouTube home of the bite-sized sketch comedy group. Brian Firenzi and his team now have many more seconds to work with, but their work is as tight as always. In their Oscars video, 5SF step into their black comedy comfort zone with some “death montage” humor.

1. Kids Reenact 2014 Oscar Nominees by CineFix

This yearly tradition has jumped around from platform to platform, but no matter where it lives, it remains my favorite part of the awards season. This time, it is produced by CineFix and mom.me. At this point, it is worth watching the nine Best Picture nominees if only to get a better laugh at their kid versions.
