Endemol ended the first night of NATPE with a pair of major talent acquisition announcements.
First, the international television production and distribution company’s North American division that’s responsible for such properties as Deal or No Deal, Big Brother, and Wipeout inked an overall deal with Pitbull. Mr. Worldwide will work with Endemol to develop projects across television and digital media, including on his very own YouTube channel under the shiny new Endemol Beyond umbrella helmed by industry vet Will Keenan.
“Combining Pitbull’s already massive global presence with our Endemol Beyond digital dream team and our creative scripted and unscripted teams in a first of its kind deal will give us an opportunity to create ground-breaking content across all media,” said Endemol North America co-CEO Charlie Corwin.
Pitbull (aka Armando Perez) is a ripe to shine in a bigger spotlight. Not only does he constantly top the Billboard charts (his single Timber featuring Ke$ha is at its third consecutive week in the #1 spot), but his on camera presence is instantly likable. Nearly everyone who saw him host the 2013 American Music Awards (who’s not racist) agrees.
And second, Endemol signed a digital deal with singer/songwriter/musician/actress/artist. Courtney Love. The former Hole frontwoman and Mrs. Kurt Cobain took the stage at Endemol’s Disrupt the Digital World party just hours after the announcement she successfully defended the first ever Twitter libel suit to tell the world about her brand new web series, in which she tells the world about her life.
Ja Rule, digital native singer/teenage heartthrob Chester See, and Vine stars Simone Shepard and Klarity also appeared at the event, but no word yet on if they’ve inked any deals with Endemol.
