YouTube’s Exclusive Comedy Network JASH Takes Home A Jury Award At Sundance

Michael Cera stars in a 17-minute short film written and directed by the young, gifted, and black Janicza Bravo, in which he plays a young man in an almost-street-ready electric wheelchair who lives by the Salton Sea and wants nothing more in life than to leave the home he shares with his mothering sister to hang out with his too-cool big brother and hit on some skirts.

The dark-comedy-slash-sad-story titled Gregory Goes Boom comes complete with an ominous score and was uploaded to YouTube back in May 2013 under the banner of the exclusive YouTube multi-channel comedy network JASH. It’s good, too. You should watch it. And if you don’t trust me, trust the three-person panel of professionals at Sundance. They just awarded it the Short Film Jury Award in U.S. Fiction

Bravo took home the accolade by making the favorite of Short Film jurors Vernon Chatman (producer, writer, director and voice actor), Joshua Leonard (filmmaker/actor), and Ania Trzebiatowska (artistic director of the Off Plus Camera International Festival of Independent Cinema, based in Krakow, Poland). Her Gregory Goes Boom beat out over 8,100 other submissions that were whittled down to just 66 selected shorts.

YouTube was a major sponsor of the festivities at Sundance, including the Sundance Film Festival Short Form Program. You can see Bravo’s film, along with all the other Short Film selections over at YouTube.com/SFF.
