Celebs Will Take To YouTube For Obamacare Live Stream

The Affordable Care Act is up and running, and the Obama administration needs US to sign up for it. In order to convince Americans that Obamacare is a sensible, worthwhile healthcare system and not a socialist nightmare where Uncle Sam violates patients in the doctor’s office, California state insurance officials and Maker Studios are planning a YouTube live stream where Hollywood notables will try to pitch Obamacare to US citizens.

The live stream is part of a campaign called Tell-A-Friend — Get Covered, though which health insurance companies like Covered California are attempting to raise awareness about what the ACA

actually entails and explain why it is important to sign up. “Generally, before you buy something, you need to hear about it seven to 10 times,” Covered California executive director Peter Lee told Variety.”But the most important place to hear about it is through a friend.”

In the case of the live stream, the ‘friends’ in question appear to be former TV stars like Wilmer Valderrama, Kal Penn, and Fran Drescher, who will spread messages to the campaign’s target audience through YouTube and Vine. The live stream will also feature at least one creator known for his YouTube videos: Alphacat. The Barack Obama impersonator has already started backing the ACA through a music video that combines Snoop Dogg’s ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot‘ with a call to sign-up for healthcare.

That’s the greatest endorsement for Obamacare I’ve ever seen. There will likely be lots of similar shenanigans when Get Covered’s 8-hour live stream takes off on January 16th, 2014.
