Who Can Make The Best Video On Instagram?

Since Instagram launched its video service in June to compete with six-second superstar Vine, an diverse user base has emerged. Brands have thrived, big name trailers have debuted, and a few short-length web series have emerged. Crowdsourced online studio JuntoBox Films is now searching for the best videos Instagram has to offer. It is currently accepting submissions for the InstaFilm contest, honoring the platform’s most creative users.

JuntoBox, which is co-chaired by actor Forest Whitaker, was inspired to create the contest after watching David Koechner‘s eight-part web series, Steady and Shakeswhich he released to Instagram in July. The unabashedly goofy cop comedy is no great shakes (pun entirely intended), but it proved that the platform, like Vine, is capable of hosting quality serial content despite its simple interface.

JuntoBox wants to find the next great Instagram series, and it’s reaching out to creators less famous than Koechner. It is accepting submissions on Twitter for short-form web series shot with Instagram and limited to no more than ten “scenes”. Interested creators should post their creations and include a series of hashtags: #InstafilmJBF, the title of the film, and the scene number.

Submissions are already streaming in, with children and the holiday season serving as inspiration for some contestants. Prizes include a trip to the Slamdance Film Fest, an iPad, and the latest Go Pro equipment, so there’s reason for amateur filmmakers to get excited. Submissions will be accepted until January 3rd, 2014, so get ‘Gramming if you think your short-form skills are up to the task.
