Yahoo Picks Up “Interactive, Virtual Venue” By Acquiring Evntlive

Yahoo‘s most recent acquisition signals its plan to take the concertgoing experience out of sweaty, overpriced brick-and-mortar venues and move it onto the Internet. It has picked up Evntlive, an “interactive, virtual venue” capable of hosting online streaming music events.

Evntlive launched last year and ultimately raised $2.3 million in seed money. While the Evntlive website has been taken down and replaced with an announcement of the company’s sale, information is available on its YouTube channel, which includes an ad showing the platform in action.

By picking up Evntlive, Yahoo looks primed to increase its distribution of live music events. Previously, it showcased artists like The Lumineers

, Kendrick Lamar, and Macklemore through its On The Road series. It can now offer a more interactive experience through a platform that has hosted events for the likes of Wu-Tang Clan, Bon Jovi, and Slash.

It’s still very early, but some believe this acquisition (along with Yahoo’s other recent purchases) signals Yahoo’s increased focus on video that greatly will improve the quality and quantity of Yahoo Screen in 2014 and beyond. Apparently, live music is a big part of that plan.
