Shut Up Cartoons‘ most popular series is back. Oishi High School Battle, which chronicles the adventures of a Sailor Moon-type anime girl as she navigates an American high school, has returned for a second season on the Smosh-branded animation channel.
Oishi may at first seem like a cute cartoon aimed at kids, and while its primary audience is Smosh’s young-skewing audience, there’s more substance to it than initially meets the eye. The reintroduction of Oishi’s Lovecraftian, Olive Garden-loving ex-beau and the macabre reproductive cycle of Oishi’s pet, Bubbles, add in bizarre, unusual, and ultimately worthwhile moments to the mix. A bonus bit of fun: A brief voice cameo from Grace Helbig as one of Bubbles’ offspring.
Season one episodes of Oishi routinely scored more than one million views, and should the rest of season two live up to the bizarre and engaging precedent set by the first episode, reaching similar traffic will be a breeze.
