Maker Studios Electrocutes Its Creators In ‘Internet Shock Quiz’

Maker Studios recently launched a comedy vertical, titled Nacho Punch, but one of the first series on the new channel is less comedy and more organized schadenfreude. It’s called Internet Shock Quiz, and its title gives the viewer a pretty good idea of its general structure.

The first episode features four Maker Studios creators–Bobby Lee, Mary Doodles, Super Ed, and Twisted Broad–who must answer trivia questions about YouTube and the Internet. Whenever they fail to answer correctly after ten questions, they’re treated to a nice sharp electrical shock. It’s operant conditioning disguised as a game show; next thing we know, participating YouTubers will be conditioned to play a nice game of ping pong.

The show is intended at the same audience that enjoys shows like Wipeout, where particularly comical self-harm is a major part of the appeal. In its current form, Internet Shock Quiz

seems very simplistic, and it could maybe use instructions more complicated than ‘answer correctly or get shocked’.

At the same time, haters of the participating creators will probably enjoy watching the punishment. While I’m no hater, I do think Bobby Lee deserves a little shock if he can’t name the guy who founded the network he is partnered with.

Even if Internet Shock Quiz isn’t your thing, it serves as a good indicator of the sort of content we can expect from Nacho Punch (which is a rebranded version of The Station). Maker’s comedy vertical. It’s going to be loud, it will get in your face, and it may occasionally shock you.
