Netflix To Release Season Two Of ‘House Of Cards’ On Valentine’s Day

Netflix just made everyone’s Valentine’s Day 2014 plans a little bit easier. The premium subscription-based video streaming service announced it’s big-budget series House of Cards will make its second season debut on February 14, 2014. And per Netflix’s affinity for promoting binge viewing, all 13 episodes of the program’s sophomore season will be released at once.

The upcoming installments will continue Washington, D.C. power couple Francis (Kevin Spacey) and Claire Underwood’s (Robin Wright) “ruthless rise to power as threats mount on all fronts” in the form of intrepid reporter Zoe Barnes (Kate Mara), her colleague Lucas (Sebastian Arcelus), and billionaire Raymond Tusk (Gerald McRaney).

Both Wright and Spacey received Emmny noms for their performances in HoC’s first season, while David Fincher took home an Emmy statuette

for his outstanding directing in the show’s premiere episode. With accolades like that (in addition to the program’s probable financial success for Netflix), it’s only a matter of time before the powers that be order a third season. In fact, Deadline reports talks are already underway.

Netflix first appeared in headlines with House of Cards way back in March 2011, when talks of the video service acquiring the rights to the show were initially reported. Netflix CEO Reed Hastings and Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos were able to woo Fincher, Spacey, and company away from deals with the likes of HBO, AMC, and other premium television networks by offering to finance two seasons of House of Cards upfront (something that, at the time, was almost unheard of in the entertainment industry) for a reported $100 million.
