Each year, Veteran’s Day seems to go largely unrecognized on the Internet, especially considering how much coverage is given to the two holidays bookending it. While many channels are recapping Halloween costumes or getting ready for Turkey Day, Yahoo‘s longest running video series is saluting the troops. Who Knew?, which has now aired more than 850 episodes, recognizes some brave soldiers in its most recent episode.
The fast-paced factoid-filled web series, which is still going strong despite its (by web standards) advanced age, used the national holiday to discuss four soldiers whose achievements have gone largely unheralded. In less than two minutes, viewers learn about the ‘Kilted Killer‘, hear the stories of Audie Murphy and Leigh Ann Hester, and get a history refresher course on naval commander John Paul Jones (no, not that one).
Who Knew?‘s tribute to the troops won’t end once Veteran’s Day is over; instead, it will spend the entire week honoring our service men and women with two more military episodes. On Wednesday, the NATO phonetic alphabet will take center stage, and the Got Your 6 program for returning veterans will be spotlighted on Friday.
The ‘Homeless Veteran Timelapse Transformation‘ video has gotten the most attention this Veteran’s Day, but Yahoo’s effort is just as worthwhile. It may not have the same emotional punch, but it’s honest, informative, and, as with all other Who Knew? episodes, slickly edited. For a series that has now released daily episodes for almost two-and-a-half years, Who Knew is still going strong.
