The Young Turks Want $250,000 To Build Their Own Studio

The Young Turks are currently homeless–and they are hoping to remedy that problem with a little help from their friends. The alternative news program has launched an Indiegogo campaign asking for $250,000, which its staff members will use to build a TV-quality studio in Los Angeles.

The Young Turks previously filmed its network of news and commentary series at the Current TV studios, where Cenk Uygur and his team hosted both web content and a daily TV news program. After Al Jazeera bought Current in January, it decided to shift the focus of the channel, eliminating outspoken shows like The Young Turks in favor of straight-down-the-middle news coverage.

The Young Turks‘ team responded by moving its operation to a cramped studio inside YouTube’s LA Space

, but it won’t be there for long. “We want to build a quality TV ready studio that will stand up to all the other mainstream networks out there,” Uygur says on the campaign’s Indiegogo page. ” A space that TYT can proudly call home, from where we will continue to deliver the truth the way we’ve always done it – independent and unfiltered. We would love it if you can build it with us. We want this to be the house that YOU built.”

The Young Turks previously used Indiegogo to fund a documentary based on Uygur’s unique career path and progressive viewpoints, and the network was able to reach its goal of $60,000. Since this goal is more than four times larger, The Young Turks will need to marshal a large number of the main channel’s 1.2 million subscribers. Thus far, the first day is off to a solid start, with more than $20,000 raised. Remember, donors: If you build it, they will come (with fresh, unabashed political opinions).
