New ‘Unity’ Comic Book Will Have Interactive Cover Thanks To CineFix

CineFix is moving beyond YouTube in a unique way. The film-focused channel has teamed up with Valiant Comics to provide a “fully-animated 8-bit cover” for the upcoming Unity series.

The term “fully-animated 8-bit cover” makes it sound like CineFix and Valiant are making the moving pictures from Harry Potter a reality. In truth, each issues of Unity #1 will be equipped with a QR code that, when scanned, will take viewers to CineFix where they can watch an episode of the channel’s 8-Bit Cinema web series. The episode will detail the origin of the comic, which is a Justice League-like assembly of Valiant superheroes who, unless you’re a big graphic novel fan, you’ve probably never heard of.

Unity #1 will release in November, and it isn’t Valiant’s first interactive cover experiment. It has previously used QR codes to create talking covers

, so adding in video was the logical next step.

“We couldn’t be more excited to work with Valiant on this unique opportunity,” said Philip Byron of BermanBraun, the media company behind CineFix. “It’s not every day that you help launch a major comic book series through digital video. The collaboration between UNITY #1 and 8-Bit Cinema is a prime example of transmedia storytelling.”

Other episodes of 8-Bit Cinema typically recreate famous films in the style of the original Super Mario Bros. The Unity episode successfully provides a healthy portion of action, and if Valiant’s heroes and villains are that rad in 8-bit, I can only imagine how much ass they will kick with more pixels at their disposal.
