YouTube’s iconic logo is a strong part of its identity, and while it is not going away anytime soon, the site will begin using an updated logo for some apps and icons.
The new logo is both very sleek and very red. It features a prominent play button at its center (in case you forget why people use YouTube) and trades in the old logo’s blocky Impact lettering for what seems to be the Metro design language. The updated font aligns YouTube’s logo with several other Google-related ones, including Google Play and Chromecast.
The old logo
is a living legend, but it’s not exactly the snazziest look on the Internet. The new design changes that by offering a modern option. ” Our main logo is a core part of YouTube and is not going away,” said YouTube in a statement. “We are increasingly using our play button for apps and icons.” For now, we can expect YouTube to toggle between its two logos, but I see the new one taking over full time duty down the line.
