Yahoo had its second-quarter earnings call on July 16th, and among all the numbers, dollar signs, and jargony marketing terms, CEO Marissa Mayer made sure to note that the company’s online video platform will continue to play an important role. Mayer noted video as one of four key areas for growth, along with search, mobile, and display.
Of course, these four categories are all very massive ones, and it seems like Mayer is generally saying ‘we want to do more of
the things that a lot of people are doing on the Internet these days.’ Still, an increased video focus could mean an increased originals budget and more high-quality programs along the lines of Burning Love and Cybergeddon. If Yahoo’s Newfronts presentation is any indication, it is more than willing to invest in web shows featuring big name celebrities. The entire earnings call is available in video form thanks to Bloomberg.
