ABC Allegedly Sabotages ‘One Life To Live’ Web Series, Gets Sued

The saga of One Life To Live‘s TV-to-web transition has been a veritable roller coaster. ABC cancelled the soap in 2012 after four decades of daytime drama. At that point, production company Prospect Park‘s plans to revive it as a web series had already materialized. However, when Prospect Park ran into various issues, it was forced to shelve OLTL until 2013, when it revived its plans to produce the series online. Now, OLTL is set to debut, but a new snag has emerged: ABC is doing its best to throw a wrench into the series. The major network has become so uncooperative that Prospect Park has filed a lawsuit, claiming that ABC is attempting to sabotage the upcoming relaunch.

Prospect Park certainly has a case. ABC has refused to transfer the soap’s web address and has not consulted on the new incarnation of the series. In the ultimate ‘fuck you’ move, ABC took two OLTL

characters on loan to General Hospital (which continues to run on the network), where it promptly killed them by having their car go off a cliff. Yeah, sounds like a pretty legitimate complaint to me. Of course, it makes sense that ABC wants to put the kibosh on Prospect Park’s web series; if it ends up being a success, the Internet could emerge as a popular alternative to daytime TV.

It’s certainly an unusual story, and while I wouldn’t expect the suit to amount to much, it seems likely that One Life To Live will still see release on its original debut date, April 29. Plus, the theme song is written by Snoop Lion. Now that’s quality entertainment.
