‘Arrested Development’ Has A Release Date, Coming May 26 To Netflix

My attitude about the new Arrested Development has generally been ‘I’ll believe it when I see it.’ Sure, I’ve been excited, but cautiously so; given the project’s penchant for delays, hold-ups, production snags, and other various impediments, I didn’t want to get too excited until I could be sure that we’re getting more updates from the Bluth family.

Well, it’s official: The fourth season of Arrested Development, which will live on Netflix, has a release date. It’s definitely going to get here. I can now get excited without worry. I think I just blue myself.

Arrested Development will arrive on May 26th, with all 15 episodes debuting at once. This is 50% more than the initial order of ten episodes, which was first set to hit Netflix in “early spring.” Given that the cast and crew had to shoot five new episodes, I’m surprised we’ll be getting the new season this soon. Not that I’m complaining, or anything.

Netflix has used the strategy of simultaneously releasing an entire season with several other shows, including its other marquee series, House of Cards. Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos explained how this method allows Arrested Development to appear in “a brand new way, crafted for the on-demand generation that has come to discover the show in the years since it last appeared on TV…The highly anticipated return of this show is sure to make history all over again.”

Creator Mitch Hurwitz quipped back that Sarandos is “going to be immensely disappointed.” Hey, this is no joking matter, Mitch. Except for the fact that it’s a comedy series, and is thus 100% a joking matter. Whatever. I’m still excited about this news, and my brain might be a little scrambled. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go mark my calendar for a Memorial Day watch party.
