NRA Uses YouTube Gun Enthusiast Colion Noir To Appeal To Minorities

The National Rifle Association doesn’t want to be known as a white man’s group, and they’re enlisting a popular YouTuber to aid them in their mission. The NRA will begin featuring African-American gun enthusiast Colion Noir on its NRANews YouTube channel in an attempt to appeal to a Black audience.

Noir began posting videos to his personal channel about 21 months ago, and in that time period he has brought in more than 88,000 subscribers. He’s hardly the most famous gun enthusiast on YouTube, but his skin color makes him a very desirable spokesman for the NRA. In the trailer for his upcoming appearances, he addresses African-Americans directly. “No one wants to fight for their protection, they want the government to do it,” he notes, “the same government who at one point hosed us down with water, attacked us with dogs, and wouldn’t allow us to eat at their restaurants, and told us we couldn’t own guns when bumbling fools with sheets on their heads were riding around burning crosses on our lawns and murdering us.”

The NRA came to national attention in 1998 when it named actor Charlton Heston the President of the organization. Heston’s appointment spoke to the need for celebrity appeals, and Noir provides a similar benefit aimed at different crowd. By making his home on YouTube, Noir can appeal to a younger demographic, a group the NRA would love to recruit for its cause.

If the NRA hopes to grow on YouTube, utilizing Noir’s strong opinions is a good start. He provides a foil to the African-American man on the other side of the spectrum who has recently addressed the need for more gun control. I could see FPSRussia eventually joining Noir on NRANews, but only if the organization can find some Southerners-with-fake-Russian-accents with whom the extremely popular firearms fan can connect.
