It’s Here! Monday’s Events At Social Media Week Los Angeles #SMWLA

Sup, Tubefilter fans. We’ve talked about it, we’ve broken it down every which way, and we’ve looked at it from every angle, but now it’s finally here: Social Media Week Los Angeles kicks off tomorrow with a great slate of opening day events that a bunch of people have worked super hard to bring to the social networker in you. We’ve got keynotes, roundtables, firesides, and all those other compound words that denote lively goings-on. As a reminder, every one of these events can be signed up for at SMWLA’s official schedule. Just click ‘Attend’!

Here’s just a small preview of what you can check out tomorrow:

9:30 am, iO LA: WHY LOS ANGELES IS THE NEXT SILICON VALLEY—A CONVERSATION WITH NATE REDMOND, MANAGING PARTNER OF RUSTIC CANYON PARTNERS

Los Angeles has long been the place where young up-and-comers go to make it big, so in an age of startups playing for keeps, LA has become the perfect epicenter for venture capital. In other words, it’s the next Silicon Valley. This is the hypothesis that Nate Redmond is bringing to the table with his own entrepreneurial firm, Rustic Canyon Partners. If you’ve got a nascent web series or fledging startup and you want to learn how to hit the big time, you could do a lot worse than hearing Redmond dish out his tips for success.

11:30 am, Egyptian Theater: KEYNOTE: THE BIGGEST CHARITY YOU’VE NEVER HEARD OF—ADAM GARONE, CEO AND CO-FOUNDER OF MOVEMBER

In November, I will be growing a patchy, pathetic mess of facial hair as part of the annual male bonding bonanza that is No-Shave November

(also known as Novembeard or Movember). Thanks to Adam Garone, I can now raise money for prostate cancer awareness and research at the same time through the Movember charity. Movember is not just a great cause; it’s also a brilliant example of how to use social trends to build a brand. I think it will be fascinating to hear what this Entrepreneur of the Year has to say.

2 pm, Egyptian Theater: A CONVERSATION WITH TROY CARTER, FOUNDER AND CEO OF ATOM FACTORY AND LADY GAGA’S BUSINESS MANAGER AND D.A. WALLACH, SPOTIFY’S ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

Hey, you know who probably knows a lot of the power of the Internet? How about the brains behind the most followed account on Twitter. The man is Troy Carter, and he’s Lady Gaga‘s business manager. With Carter’s marketing chops leading the way, Lady Gaga is known not as a crazy lady in a meat dress but instead as a social media frontrunner. If you’re trying to break into the music industry or if you’re just interested in hearing the news from the top, Carter is definitely the man you want to see.

2:30, Egyptian Theater: THE WIZARDS OF OZ: BEHIND THE CURTAIN OF HOLLYWOOD’S MOST SOCIAL CELEBRITIES

After Carter files out, make sure to hang around the Egyptian Theater for another panel featuring the media managers of your favorite celebs. This one is going to be flat out fun, since Snoop Dogg‘s social media manager will be there, hopefully to talk about smoking all day long with a rap legend (and, you know, discuss the strategies behind Snoop’s Twitter, which has ten million followers). Reps for Rainn Wilson and Felicity Huffman will also be there, so this is a great chance to go behind the scenes of Hollywood’s most carefully engineered social media presences.

A reminder that these events are FREE, so you have no excuse not to show up tomorrow. Don’t miss out!
