Freddie Wong Wants You to Come Celebrate Rollercoaster Day on Monday!

May 14, 2012 is officially Rollercoaster Day. If you already know what Rollercoaster Day is, you’re all Dr. Frankenfurter waiting for it to arrive (and probably don’t understand the Rocky Horror reference). If you don’t know what Rollercoaster Day is, I’m all that Nintendo 64 Kid because I get to be the one that tells you about it.

Freddie Wong and Brandon Laatsch (the two crazy talented special effects artists and filmmakers behind the super popular YouTube channel FreddieW and part of the team that’s creating Video Game High School with the support of a $273,725 Kickstarter campaign) conceived of Rollercoaster Day two years ago. The pair decided to go to Six Flags on a random regularly scheduled workday to live a little and enjoy the rides sans the lines.

“Rollercoaster Day is about taking a day off from your usual routine to do something fun,” Wong intones over an image of Earth in his Rollercoaster Day Invitation video. “In our case, that’s to ride rollercoasters.”

Wong and Laatsch were the only two people in the world to celebrate the first Rollercoaster Day. The

second Rollercoaster Day, however, was observed by hundreds and recognized by thousands more. People drove from as far away as Oregon and Arizona to join Wong, Laatsch and other FreddieW fans who heard about the holiday by way of YouTube at Six Flags Magic Mountain.

The Second Rollercoaster Day day was, in no uncertain terms, epic. And the Third Annual Rollercoaster Day promises to be even better.

Wong and Laatsch are inviting all who can make it to Six Flags Magic Mountain at 10AM on Monday, May 14, 2012 to celebrate Rollercoaster Day in person. (And for those of you who can’t make it in person, they’re encouraging you to celebrate in spirit at a park closer to wherever you live).

The video announcing the holiday (which you can check out above) is already over 1.2 million views, so the number of celebrants is expected to be at least in the few thousands.

Follow the action of the Third Annual Rollercoaster Day up close and personal at Six Flags and/or via social media and the hashtag #RCDAY2012. Either way, Happy Rollercoastering!
