Premiering Today: ‘Booth at the End’, ‘Ain’t That Life’

Mondays are popular launch days for new web series and today has a few new ones to dive into, including the first time Statesiders can watch Vuguru’s thriller The Booth at the End which until now was only available to Canadian and UK viewers.

The Booth at the End

“People come to The Man in the booth with a wish, and he makes a mysterious deal requiring them to complete a task that challenges their sense of right and wrong.”

Xander Berkeley stars as The Man, in this well crafted single-location series—it all takes place in a roadside diner—that pushed the lines of moral ambiguity for all of us. What kind of devil’s bargain would you make to save your child’s life? Or to look prettier?

This one won’t win honors for effects and chase sequences, but you’ll be thinking afterwards that’s for sure. The series was original intended as short, 3-minute episode, but now that Hulu is hungry for longer form, it’s been cut into 22-minute eps.

Ain’t That Life

“Follow Harold’s comic adventures as he seeks love, sex, fulfillment, the secret of success, sex – and proof that will clear him of his ex-girlfriend’s murder.”

The series is being billed as “a comedy/mystery series with an ARG component,” which means we’re in store for more than the polished episodes from this quirky comedy. The web site has a “Chat and Connect” area and a sex and dating column from Layla Bush.

As for the story, Trey Gibbons stars as the recently fired Harold Bregman who runs into Allyson (Azizah Hayes Rowen), a sex addict and shopaholic, while at a much needed visit to his therapist.

Ain’t That Life celebrates the passionate irrationality of our enduring hope for a happy life and meaningful relationships amid a world of self-absorbed, self-centered people,” said creator-director Joseph Amiel on the launch of the series.

Premiering later this week:

Bandwagon (Season 2)

The new comedy series stars Emma Caulfield (Buffy, Life Unexpected), Tracie Thoms (Rent, Cold Case) and Yvette Nicole Brown (NBC’s Community). Season 1 was originally an indie movie in a mockumentary style and later turned in to web series, but Season 2, according to the creators, is entirely created for the web, funded by Kickstarter campaign.
