YouTube's 'Fred', The Movie?

Fresh off of Breakdown Services today is a casting breakdown for what appears to be a feature film version of YouTube’s most viewed web series, Fred. The complete breakdown is below and it looks like they are casting the supporting roles Bertha, Judy and Kevin with the title role of high-pitched teenager Fred Figglehorn presumably going to 16 year-old Lucas Cruikshank.

There’s not much else to go off of here. The production company, Derf Films, seems to have been set up just for this project (Derf is Fred backwards). Director Clay Weiner has his own popular YouTube channel, mittymoo

, and this looks like his first feature after a steady resume of branded spots through Biscuit Filmworks. Casting director Sheryl Levine seems a good choice to cast precocious teenagers having cast Nickelodeon’s Drake & Josh and Zoey 101.

We recently learned that Fred/Lucas draws in a healthy six-figure income from the YouTube series, but making a feature seems like a no brainer. On a side note, we noticed that Fred is actually no longer the most subscribed channel on YouTube, with comedian Ryan Higa ousting him from the spot.

[BERTHA] 15 to 16 years old, all ethnicities. Similar to Fred, she marches to the beat of her own drum. Not similar to Fred, she’s got more confidence than Beyonce and is completely oblivious to the fact she’s not the hottest girl at school. She does what she wants because she’s not concerned with what others think. And she almost pulls it off because she owns it. She’s fickle, and not always really nice to Fred, but we get the idea that she might have a bit of a crush on him. Ultimately, we see a crack in her armor, and she becomes Fred’s ally…SUPPORTING

[JUDY] 15 to 16 years old, all ethnicities, Judy is the beautiful girl-next-door, the seemingly angelic object of Fred’s affection. She’s not a classic Mean Girl to Fred. She’s really just focused more on herself than anything (or anyone) else and cares about being cool and what her friends think of her…SUPPORTING

[KEVIN] 15 to 16, all ethnicities, Kevin is a human predator who taunts Fred every chance he gets. He’s not a traditional meathead bully like Biff from BACK TO THE FUTURE. He seems to be good at everything, which makes all of it worse. He is ubiquitous in Fred’s world, lives catty-corner from Fred’s house, and bursts his bubble every single time. Not only is Kevin always around, but he always seems to know exactly what is going on in Fred’s brain. It’s almost as if he lives there…SUPPORTING
