Bindery is helping #BookTok faves become publishers. Here’s it inaugural slate of pickups.

Bindery is getting busy with its plan to bring #BookTok into the wider publishing world. The young startup, which works with literary influencers to establish book clubs and publish relevant titles, has announced the first four deals that have come out of its unique model.

The books picked up by Bindery are not published under a single imprint. Instead, the individual creators who work with the company control their own presses, allowing them to select titles that will be most relevant among their fans. For Jaysen Headley, the TikToker known as Ezeekat, a foray into publishing begins with House of Frank by Kay Synclaire, a “cozy fantasy” set in a “magical arboretum sanctuary.” Headley will release House of Frank through Ezeekat Press, the subscription-based community he launched alongside Bindery.

The other Bindery pickups are Strange Beasts, which Kathryn Budig will publish through Inky Phoenix Press

; Of Fire And Ash, which will be attached to Kevin Norman‘s Violetear Books; and a “climate fantasy” called And The Sky Bled, which will see publication through Zoranne Host‘s Fantasy & Frens.

A press release from Bindery indicates that the company’s partners chose their acquisitions based on the type of books their fans would like to add to their shelves. The creators will engage with their subscriber communities throughout the publication process, thus providing built-in promotion for Bindery titles. When we first covered Bindery earlier this year, the startup’s Co-Founder Matt Kaye said that published authors will receive better royalty rates than the ones they get from traditional imprints.

“Our mission is to connect deserving authors with readers who will love them,” Kaye said in a statement. “Each one of these superb, wholly original books perfectly embodies that mission, showing what happens when the tastemakers who set the trends are able to decide what gets published.”

All four books are on similar publishing schedules.
