Miley Cyrus is giving viewers an inside look on TikTok, and her fans are loving it. The pop star has debuted a reminiscent web series to promote her new single “Used To Be Young“. Five days after it first went live, the series has earned 20 million views across 19 videos.
The title “Used To Be Young” applies to Cyrus’ latest music video and the short-form uploads that accompany it. In her “Used To Be Young” TikTok clips, the former Hannah Montana star reacts to videos from her past. “I’m going to start at the beginning of my life in 1992…and we’re going through the last 30 years,” Cyrus says in the first “Used To Be Young” episode.
Some of the clips featured in the series, including a few Cyrus family home videos, strike a nostalgic tone. In other episodes, Cyrus discusses the hectic life she led as a young actress. The most-watched installment tells the story of Cyrus’ first audition for the title role in Hannah Montana.

The series is a fascinating look into the life of a person who was a celebrity from the time she was born. “When I was born, my dad had the number one country song,” Cyrus says near the start of the series. That’s not exactly true — “Achy Breaky Heart” was #1 on the country charts in the spring of ’92, months before Miley’s November birthday — but the loose feel of the “Used To Be Young” videos make them perfect for TikTok.
The “Used To Be Young” series is boosting the music video of the same name, which has 14 million views over its first six days of activity on Cyrus’ YouTube channel. Another of her recent singles, “Flowers,” inspired one of the biggest trends in YouTube Shorts history. By going viral on TikTok, she’s showing that she can have the best of both worlds.
