Benny Drama moves from Instagram to Amazon with a scripted comedy called ‘Overcompensating’

On platforms like Instagram and TikTok, Benito Skinner is known for impersonating celebrities and serving up glam looks. Now, the creator known as Benny Drama is gearing up for his biggest project yet. He will take the lead in Overcompensating, a scripted comedy he has sold to Amazon.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Overcompensating is currently in development. Skinner penned the script for the project and will star as a football player from Idaho who is struggling to come to terms with his sexuality (hence the title). Skinner, a well-known figure in the queer community, attended TikTok’s Thrive with Pride concert during last year’s LA Pride festival.

One of the artists who performed during that concert will also provide music for OvercompensatingCharli XCX headlines a list of prominent partners who are working with Skinner on his Amazon debut. The indie media company A24 will produce the project, which boasts executive producers like Jonah Hill (through his company Strong Baby) and record exec Scooter Braun. If OVercompensating advances to a full series run, Scott King will serve as its showrunner.
