Snapchat Taps Kardashians For Latest ‘Spotlight Challenge’, Touting $100,000 In Prizes

Snapchat has teamed up with Kim Kardashian West and family matriarch Kris Jenner for some glitzy promotional power ahead of its latest Spotlight Challenge.

Snapchat launched Spotlight Challenges in October as another way for creators to make money on Spotlight, its user-generated content hub. With Challenges, users must adhere to specific Lenses, Sounds, or #Topics, and — until now — touted max prize pools of $25,000 per Challenge, with the Spotlight team adjudicating the 50 most-viewed entries to select a handful of winners.

Today, Kardashian West and Jenner announced the #KindnessChallenge, which asks U.S. creators to surprise a loved one with a compliment or random act of kindness. Submissions can be tendered on the Spotlight Trending Page. The winner will receive $50,000 — double the standard max prize — with second and third places taking home $30,000 and $20,000, respectively.

“I’m excited to partner with Snapchat to highlight their commitment to make Spotlight the kindest place on the internet,” Kardashian West said in a statement. “When you spread kindness, you immediately have the power to change someone’s day for the better.”

Spotlight Challenges are only available in the U.S. right now, but will roll out to additional markets in coming months. Snapchat says that, outside of Challenges, it rewards Spotlight creators with millions of dollars per month. Challenges are curated by an internal editorial team, and all videos are moderated before gaining distribution, Snapchat says.
