Instagram Testing 60-Second Stories, Quadruple Their Current Length

Instagram Stories may soon feel a bit more seamless.

The Meta-owned platform has launched a live test of 60-second Stories, Social Media Today reports, which is quadruple the length of the current 15-second segments.

Last month, mobile developer and reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi uncovered the test in the app’s code, which is currently rolling out live to a small group of users, Instagram confirmed.

“The ability to create longer Stories posts comes highly requested by our community,” the company told Social Media Today. “We’re excited to be testing 60-second Stories so that people can create and view Stories with fewer interruptions.”

Instagram last instituted a major change to its video interface in October, when it sunsetted the IGTV format and combined all video into a single format, aptly dubbed Instagram Video. At the time, video previews in feeds were extended from 15 to 60 seconds (except when carrying ads). Before that, in July, Instagram doubled the maximum length of its TikTok copycat Reels format from 30 to 60 seconds as well.
