Spotify’s New Shopify Integration Lets Artists More Seamlessly Sell Merch

Ecommerce platform Shopify has announced a new integration with music streamer Spotify to propagate merch sales.

Now, artists can connect their Shopify shops directly to their Spotify profiles to sell their merch and other non-traditional products. The new tools also enable artists and their teams to manage inventory and control which items are featured on their profiles.

While the capability to link accounts is now available to all artists globally, Shopify merch will only be visible to listeners in Canada, the U.S., the U.K., Australia, and New Zealand, as the program is still in beta. Artists can sign up via their Spotify For Artists accounts — a fan development platform on Spotify that the streamer says is used by more than 1 million artists, managers, and labels each month.

“We want to provide artists with as many resources as possible to help turn listeners into fans, fans into superfans and, ultimately, help artists earn more,” Camille Hearst, head of Spotify for Artists, said in a statement. “The integration of Shopify’s powerful back-end for powering commerce presents a significant step forward.”

In a blog post, Spotify noted that it already operates other ways for artists to make money, including the ability to sell tickets to virtual events, as well as the ability for U.S. podcasters sell monthly subscriptions. Shopify, for its part, also operates integrations with TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram.
