Welcome to YouTube Millionaires, where we profile channels that have recently crossed the one million subscriber mark. There are channels crossing this threshold every week, and each creator has a story to tell about YouTube success. Read previous installments here.
This week’s installment of YouTube Millionaires is brought to you by Bright – a learning platform focused on real conversations that level up your life.
Fortnite and Five Nights at Freddy’s have had their moments, but since it first found favor with creators way back in 2010, Minecraft has remained the top video game on YouTube.
And the title’s lasting popularity is especially apparent in the case of this week’s YouTube Millionaire.
Kazakhstan-based Lucky Maker began uploading Minecraft gameplay clips to YouTube’s TikTok competitor, Shorts, just six months ago. In those six months, his channel has soared to nearly one billion collective views and more than 1.8 million subscribers, and his daily uploads are still growing his channel at a rate of tens of thousands of new subscribers and tens of millions of views each week.
Like many of our featurees for Creators on the Rise, another column where we track breakout YouTubers, Lucky Maker got his start making shortform content on TikTok (where he has 4.6 million followers), and then expanded YouTube after it launched Shorts late last year. More than 20 of his Shorts uploads–all less than 30 seconds long–have garnered at least 10 million views each, and Lucky Maker’s most-watched video, an artistic in-game tribute to late Marvel icon Stan Lee, has brought more than 28 million views.
For Lucky Maker, his quick success is a sign that YouTube Shorts can be a long-term home, and the ideal place to continue growing his content creation career.
Check out our chat with him below.
Lucky Maker: It’s hard to believe! I am sincerely grateful to all my subscribers who love my content and who inspire me to make videos!
LM: I’ve been in the IT field, and in the meantime was playing various games. I only occasionally thought about making videos and how cool it would be to make videos about games that I love.
LM: First, I created a TikTok account, where I immediately gained popularity. In the first month, I gained over 100K subscribers (now 4.6 million). A year later, YouTube released YouTube Shorts, and I was immediately interested in it! I started making content on YouTube, and in a month I gained about 300K subscribers. I’ve now gathered over one million subscribers in just two months after actively uploading on YouTube!
LM: First of all, I like this game, and I played it as a child, which is very important. I also like that the Minecraft
creators love this game and constantly add new versions and mechanics.LM: I believe that short videos are the future! I think if YouTube continues to develop short videos, it will come out on top in the world in popularity, as TikTok did last year!
LM: Yes, right now this is my only job, and I love it! I wake up with the knowledge that I need to come up with a bunch of cool ideas for new videos, and when I see good views on the videos, and the enthusiasm of my audience, it really inspires me!
LM: The main thing is to follow the trends, it is very important. It is also important to release a video every day, as the channel analytics will then grow. And yes, I correct my strategy if I see that a certain type of content does not appeal to my viewers.
LM: If you want your video to stand out, you can come up with something new of your own! But it is very important to follow the trends and catch the hype!
LM: I like it when I have a new idea and manage to fully convey it to the viewer!
LM: I am planning to release my own brand of clothing tailored to my brand! I also plan to release various gaming items such as gaming chairs and so on.
LM: I plan to reach 50 million subscribers in the next three years! I want to make the Lucky Maker channel the most popular gaming channel in the world!
