Hulu Debuts $2 Subscription For College Students

College students can now subscribe to Hulu’s basic ad-supported plan for $2 per month.

The tier typically costs $5.99 per month, and provides access to Hulu’s entire library of third-party content as well as originals like Little Fires Everywhere and The Handmaid’s Tale. Subscribers are served preroll ads plus a few ad breaks throughout episodes. (Upgrading to ad-free costs $11.99 per month, but isn’t available for the student discount.)

To qualify for the offer, folks must be over 18 and enrolled at a recognized U.S. college. Per Variety, Hulu is working with marketing and identity verification platform SheerID to confirm those who apply for the deal are actually current students.

In a post announcing the discount, Hulu nudged its Watch Party feature, telling readers “it’s now easier than ever for students to watch with their friends and classmates who have Hulu, no matter where they are.”

Watch Party allows up to eight subscribers to watch a movie or show together, with synchronized playback. Hulu introduced the feature in May 2020, as the pandemic drove record traffic to streaming services and record interest in long-distance gatherings. It was originally limited to $11.99/month subscribers, but Hulu expanded it to all users last month.
