With New Year’s Eve celebrations inevitably quashed by the pandemic, TikTok — the platform that has risen to renown in quarantine — is looking to ring in 2021 in epic fashion.
The platform has tapped native star Brittany Broski and rapper Lil Yachty to host its livestreaming New Year’s Eve party. The event is being produced by B17 Entertainment, the studio behind HBO Max’s Craftopia and YouTube’s The Great Gift Exchange.
Kicking off on Dec. 31 at 9:30 pm ET, the event will look back on the best TikTok moments of 2020 — complete with musical performances, creator sketches, special segments for social causes, and trend explaniers (a nod to the rundown TikTok recently put together
comprising the year’s biggest viral videos, hashtags, and breakout creators). The New Year’s Eve stream will feature live performances from Jason Derulo, Saweetie, Aly & AJ, and Tai Verdes, as well as appearances from Cardi B, Mick Fleetwood, Liam Payne, and Charli and Dixie D’Amelio.Additionally, TikTok says it will be launching new effects for the holiday season on Dec. 26 — though they will be exclusively available for iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max users, enabling them to add immersive snow and confetti to their clips.
The New Year’s Eve festivities will broadcast from the official TikTok channel.
