Winners To Be Announced For 7th Annual ‘Peace In The Streets Global Film Festival’

The winners of the 7th annual Peace In The Streets Global Film Festival (PSGFF) will be announced today via a screening on UN TV, which broadcasts United Nations-related programming. The event will also serve as a closer for the 75th anniversary celebrations of the UN itself.

PSGFF asks socially-conscious filmmakers under age 18 to tell their stories via a film — between one and five minutes in length — and to answer a prompt of sorts, tackling what the word ‘peace’ means to them. The film festival is produced by The Peacemaker Corps, a 23-year-old United Nations NGO whose mission is to support peace and tolerance education among young people globally.

Submissions are free, can be recorded on any device, and were due this year on Nov. 1 — with winners being judged by their message and not technical skills. Participants created projects about the global pandemic, international protests, and other topics of the day. The PSGFF saw entries from 30 countries around the world, it said, with winners hailing from 12 countries.

“Despite the global pandemic, or perhaps because of it, entries poured in,” the festival’s executive director Suzanne Harvey said in a statement.

Winners for the ‘PSGFF’ category will be announced in three age groups — eight and under, nine to 13, and 14 to 18. This year also features two new categories: one for films about COVID-19, and another for films that addresed the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals

, which it announced in September as a blueprint for its work ahead in realms like poverty, inequality, climate change, and more.

• In the SDG age 9 to 13 category, the winner is Let’s All Be Good Neighbors by the Villanueva Siblings of Mexico
• In the SDG age 14-18 category, the winner is Into The Woods by Charlotte Xu of the U.S.
• In the PSGFF 8 and under category, the winner is Spirit of Love by Pause and Play of Kenya
• In the PSGFF age 9 to 13 category, the winner is This Light of Mine by Kate Baird of the U.S.
• In the PSGFF age 14 to 18 category, the winner is Privileged by Leandro de Armas of the U.S.
• In the COVID-19 age 14-18 category, the winner is When Reality Strikes by Vinay Rai of India
• In the COVID-19 age 9-13 category, the winner is Quarantine Memories by the Villanueva Siblings of Mexico
