Mark ‘Markiplier’ Fischbach is nonplussed. The 30-year-old YouTuber shared in a recent video that a biography has been written about his life — and is bound to garner profits — without his involvement or consent.
Fischbach put the book — which looks to be part of a trademarked series dubbed Top Video Gamers In The World, with installments featuring fellow vloggers Ninja, Garmendia, and El Rubius — on blast, also calling out author Philip Wolny. “I don’t know about the legality of someone making a book about me without my permission,” Fischbach says, noting that one of his friends bought it for him on Amazon as a gag gift. He says he’s unsure whether he’ll be taking legal action or not.
Fischbach noted that a number of stats in the book are inaccurate, including outdated lifetime viewership and subscriber counts, as well as a number of other misreported anecdotes from his life. In his video (below), Fischbach goes through the book, tabulating the parts that are ‘technically correct’ (13) and those that are flat out ‘wrong’ (18). Fischbach ultimately surmises that Wolny simply referenced his Draw My Life video from 2013 and regurgitated that info.
While he’s never released a biography or memoir, Fischbach has written one book before. Last July, he released a graphic novel titled Markiplier: The Giant-Sized Adventures Of, which followed the Markiplier character as he embarked on a cross-dimensional adventure with a mysterious watch.
“There’s only so much info out there about my life — even though I’ve put out 4,700 videos talking about my life,” Fischbach says of the unauthorized bio. “If you ever wanted to now about me, why not just watch my videos? Because I talk about my life all the time. You can get to know me as a person, instead of whatever that book tried to paint me into being.”
