Twitch Suspends ‘Smash Bros.’ Streamer For Drunkenly Passing Out On Camera

Twitch has suspended an esports pro named Joseph ‘Mang0’ Marquez for drunkenly passing out mid-stream.

While Marquez denies that he actually passed out due to drinking too much Blue Moon earlier this week, a clip of the alleged incident on YouTube (below) sees him guzzling beer as his eyes slowly start to drift, whereupon he suddenly falls out of his chair. On Twitter, Marquez claimed that he jokingly fell over on purpose before taking a brief break from the stream to go talk to his girlfriend. He notes that he later returned to conclude the broadcast.

Marquez, who is a professional Super Smash Bros. Melee player, counts 230,000 followers on Twitch.

According to Variety, Marquez was tendered a seven-day suspension as a result of the incident — though the streaming platform said that it doesn’t comment on Community Guidelines violations out of respect for users’ privacy. However, in a tweet sent out by Marquez of his alleged suspension email (below), Twitch claims he was punished for showcasing “dangerous consumption of drugs or alcohol.”

This is the second headline-garnering incident illuminating the way in which Twitch doles out punishments to violating users. Last week, in a decidedly more serious case, the company re-banned an Australian streamer named Luke ‘MrDeadMoth’ Munday, who allegedly assaulted his partner in the midst of a broadcast. Controversially, Munday was allowed back onto Twitch shortly after his suspension — though the company subsequently terminated his account following uproar on social media.
