YouTube Issues Another Strike Against InfoWars For Hate Speech, Child Endangerment

Amid a persisting debate about whether far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones should be allowed to maintain a presence on Facebook, which hosted an event last week about redressing fake news, YouTube has tendered yet another strike against Jones’ InfoWars channel, which counts 2.4 million subscribers.

YouTube struck InfoWars for hate speech and child endangerment yesterday, reports The Verge, and also yanked four videos from the channel. The strike will mean that Jones cannot live stream for 90 days. However, in order to be terminated, a channel must receive three strikes within a three-month window. YouTube last struck InfoWars in February for claiming that the survivors of the Parkland school shooting were crisis actors — meaning that the channel would’ve had a clean slate before receiving its most recent strike on Tuesday.

Of the four most recent videos deleted by YouTube — which were collectively bundled into a single strike — two contained hate speech against Muslims, one contained hate speech against transgender people, and one featured a child being pushed to the ground by an adult bearing the title How To Prevent Liberalism, according to The Verge.

“We have longstanding policies against child endangerment and hate speech,” a YouTube spokesperson told the outlet. “We apply our policies consistently according to the content in the videos, regardless of the speaker or the channel. We also have a clear three-strikes policy and we terminate channels when they receive three strikes in three months.”
