Will Smith Released A Teaser For His New Music On YouTube

Over a decade after he released his last album, Will Smith teased some new music on his YouTube channel.

In the video, published on May 23 and watched over 1.1 million times, Smith begins by saying he’s “reenergized…creating wildly like I used to.” Then he starts rapping, referencing moments from his career including his leading role on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, the Men in Black franchise, and playing Muhammad Ali in the 2001 feature film, Ali. The lyrics also mention divorce rumors about Smith and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith (which he says are untrue). You can watch it below.

The video, about three minutes long, ends with the words, “New music coming soon.” Smith’s last album, Lost and Found, debuted in 2005. Since then, Smith has focused on his film career, starring in a number of feature films from Men In Black to I Am Legend to the Netflix original movie Bright last year.

Smith has also spent time building up his YouTube presence. At the start of this year, he launched his own channel, which now has over 2 million subscribers. His channel includes vlogs, challenge videos, and a series called Storytime, in which he recently told viewers how he landed the lead role on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

However, Smith hasn’t exactly been neglecting his music career. He recently collaborated with Nicky Jam (Nick Caminero) and Era Isterefi on the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia official song, titled “Live It Up.” He’ll perform the song, produced by Diplo, with Caminero and Isterefi during the World Cup in Moscow on July 15.

In the meantime, Smith has encouraged fans to stay tuned to his YouTube channel for new music “on the way!” He executive produced his recent musical teaser with Miguel Melendez, while Lukas Kaiser served as producer and Brian Vannucci directed and edited. With YouTube having just released a new version of its music service, it looks like Smith’s new work is set to land there.
